I don't have any special insight, don't think anybody -Geologist or not- can guess when/where the next tectonic activity will happen. I think everybody knows about the "bulge" under Yellowstone... And the New Madrid fault near St Louis and the Mississippi valley. To name a couple...

Yeah, more than 30 years. Time flies.

Odds are the next activity won't be anywhere near home, it'll be in the Pacific Rim of Fire.

We had a rumble a month or so ago, in middle Tennessee. Not Pacific Rim of Fire but New Madrid fault. Maybe we'll become the left coast some day.

Not to pick a fight with anybody, but I'd guess differently... The Pacific Rim just had lotsa "pressure relief" via the Japanese quake/tsunami. I'd betcha a nickel the next one will be somewhere else.

May 18, on a less historical note, happens to be my and the wife's anniversary.

Also, on my birthday, Jan. 28, the space shuttle Challenger exploded.

My luck is simply less than optimal. I suppose I should stop buying lottery tickets....

Yo Mookie-
I don't usually tell this, but that's the reason I remember May 18, 1980... I got married on that day as well. Not still married, but I remember St. Helens!

Well, no, can't say that helps. Sounds like a helluva good weekend, though. Got pictures? :D

Speaking of historic catastrophies, today is the first day post Rapture. Things at the Blue Homestead here in Connersville seem pretty much the same. Wife and cat seem to be all here and accounted for. So the question: Were we already in Heaven or is this just a small taste of Hell?

Time will tell.

I was in the first group of the public that was allowed up on Mt St Helens when they opened a one lane rough road.
The destruction was unbelievable, the road was one lane and took all day just to get up, around and down again.
At one point all they had done was level a peak off the width of the road with sheer drops on both sides.
The road was so dangerous and kept collapsing under the weight of vehicles that it was closed again shortly after.
I am really surprised no one lost a vehicle over an edge.
I got some real amazing photos though, and although it was very risky I am glad I drove it.

Al
