Hey Marcus,
just tried that roof shoveling thing. Didn't work for me. I must be doing something wrong. It's too hot up there.

My total sympathy to those experiencing this deep freeze. But, we get to blame this one on the Russians this time, at least according to our weather people down here. They say it's blowing over the north pole into North America from Siberia.

Cheers,

I was driving to Halifax the other day to do some errands when I passed by the spot where I launch my boat each year, using a boom truck. My club doesn't have a crane, so we just drop the boat into the water at high tide at the culvert at the causeway. Now the only bit of open water is occupied by the ducks, who take advantage of the tidal current in the culvert. I haven't got a clue as to why the owner of the Cape Island boat (a local commercial fishing boat type) decided to let his boat freeze in, rather than storing it ashore, although it may not have been intentional.

I am not actually complaining about the cold - just the snow - because on bare ice I could be iceboating.

Just got back from tug hill plateau in upstate ny. Total for the year is 205 inches of snow. And growing up I used to go to the UP. (Upper Peninsula) where we would go fishing the first week of May, a lot of times you were dodging ice with your boat. You don't need a hill to go sledding just leave a trial on your roof and you can sled down it. It is a lot of fun and I know it sounds crazy but if it's going to be cold at least we have stuff to have fun with. And you can go snowmobiling on fire roads doing 100. Or you can drive out on a lake after a 10 wheel dump truck plowed lanes for ice shanties. We had to get an extension for the ice auger because it was not long enough.

This winter stuff needs to end soon. Back in December this would have seemed like a really bad idea.....

See CRAZY! Things that normally you'd scoff at soon become interesting cause your brain and extremities never get to thaw out.

If the weather requires much more than a thong it doesn't interest me much.

Hey Andrew!
I posted that picture on the Dixie Region FaceBook page with the comment, "Tag some ONE who would? Hell, I know at least two dozen."
Several of my buddies responded, including one that had gone sliding on the roof of a VW while it was still attached to the rest of the VW, apparently...

For the record, I have gone sledding on a car hood, when I lived in WV. What it lacks in handling it makes up for with a lack of brakes too!

I've gone sledding on a car hood and a stolen Coke sign... Big fun.

I never said I would be the one wearing the thong

I'm the guy with the binoculars, camera and a smile on his face.

Yes, Texas is still closed today.

That's not good. That means you could be stuck there quite a while as flights and people are shuffled.

Someone had to try it! On the plus side you should be able to conquer whatever gets in your way.

I really like how the caged version has chains on the front (presumably to attach it to some sort of motor vehicle). Several years ago after a big snow storm we saw a group of high school kids at the local mall towing a sled (presumably from the nearby Dicks) behind their Buick. I didn't want to hang around to see the aftermath.

The hood sled seems brilliant in comparison!
