Yes, Happy Birthday Canada.

I also see in the news that Canada is again "The most admired and reputable country in the world." That's fantastic too. I sure am glad we have you folks as neighbors. Hopefully, you feel the same way about us from time to time.

So, agreeing that Canada is genuinely so nice and all, I do have one question. How in the hell did you folks ever invent ice hockey?

Too bad y'all kicked my ancestors out after the French and Indian War. But, then San Diego, California is pretty nice too.

Cheers, and many more Happy Birthdays Canada,

JD - Yes to the fireworks. My buddy Geoff owns the marina beside my cottage and he asked me to help him shoot off the big display that he bought. We were looking at the big crates of fireworks yesterday and discussing how we would go about it when I realized that he hadn't realized that some of the fireworks had labels that read "this side up" and "this side to crowd"...it would have been an interesting time without discovering those labels as we'd of never noticed them in the dark. Would have been sort of a northern Team Slotus fireworks display..."run for your lives!!"
Also big community picnic today and fiddling with a cursed outboard motor that needs its carb cleaned...only 4hp so VERY tiny passages in the carb.

Lonnie - how could you not invent hockey when everything is frozen 6 months of the year (in a lot of the country anyway)? And, yes, we're very happy to have the USA as a neighbor.....the border between Canada and the USA is still the longest unprotected border in the world and let's hope for enough world stability that it can stay that way.

A "Canadian Moment" --
I was walking along the beach at St. George Island one time, during the week between Christmas and New Year's. Long pants and a sweatshirt on a cold windy day... Saw some folks in bathing suits playing in the surf. As I walked by I waved, one of the guys said "Hello" so I said "What part of Canada are y'all from?" They actually WERE Canadian, they all laughed and we had a great chat about weather, cold water, etc. Nice moment...

I've actually been the person in the water, except it was a beach in San Diego one January. Our working theory here is "If you can't drive your car on the water then it's okay for swimming".

I see... So, we all seem to agree that Canadians are nice folks. But, obviously, they are also Nucking Futs... Not that there's anything wrong with that...
