Good Day all,
Originally planned to build with a rotary engine. Now am looking at a BMW K1200LT engine. Does anyone have more information in these engines? I have always wondered about them. This model of bike comes with a reverse gear as well (used to be a big tourer). Appreciate all leads to more info.
Thanks,
Abid.

Check into wether the shaft is on the left or right side of the bike. That will tell you what direction the engine rotations is after the transmission. I think it might be on the right side and therefor the rotation would be backwards from what you want, but might be wrong...

Using that engine is my plan if I can ever get my health issues sorted out. I already have the bike and done some initial research. Aftermarket electrics for the engine are mad expensive. However, you may go the megasquirt route, but I'm unaware of anyone that's done the megasquirt on that particular engine. Which leaves the OEM stock electrics for the engine. I found no one that can tune the stock computer outside it's stock tune. I feel however, if these obsticles can be overcome there's a few more ponies in the engine plus you can dispense with the restrictive intake and cat.

If I interpret this picture correctly, then the direction of rotation is fine for most differentials. I do not have first hand knowlege of this fact though. Additionally, if you keep the stock motorcycle tyre diameter of 24.559" on whatever car tyre you decide to use then the complete bike electrical system can be used including the gauges and most importantly the speedo (which can't be modified) and the cruise control. Afaik the only onboard system that may cause difficulty is the ABS system. I haven't figured that one out yet.

Thanks for the info Tyrod, I wish you the best.
What year is your bike? I am looking at a 2003 vintage engine. That is the horizontal inline 4 (the flying brick) the new ones are the vertical inline 4.
Megasquirt looks promising for getting rid of the electronics issue. But that comes with its own set of problems, I guess.

Mine is a 2001, so it's the brick.

I have had thoughts of a BMW K build. This is the 1985 K100RS Turbo I used to own. At nearly 680 lbs. and 180hp at the wheel, I'm sure it would push a seven down the road. And prior to selling it, I was notified that an upgrade to 330hp at the wheel was available ;)

The K-series engine is what I'm using in my mockup, but flipped with output shaft forward.
