It's finished... well except for the head light buckets.
Once that's done, its off to the DMV

Amazing work. Do you have a means of weighing it? I'm curious to see what these things actually weigh when completed.

Yes, I have a set of scales... it came in right around 1050 lbs.
I little heavier than I wanted, I was shooting for 1000lbs

Well I guess I need to read your build thread again and find out why my bodyless, aluminum chassis BEC looks like it's going to be ~1200lbs...

Mine is tig welded 41301.25" dia .035 wall tubing. (except for roll hoop that 1.375 .080 DOM)
All the body is resin infused carbon fiber.
If I went to 3 piece wheels and lighter running gear I'd be under 1000lbs

Well, that will do it. Man that is some thin tube. I guess the best way to lose a kilo really is to lose 1000 grams...

Edit: just did the math. Your steel tube is only 51% the weight of my aluminum tube.

That is an amazing job in an incredibly short period of time. Let the shakedowns begin!
I need to get back to work on the Hodgepodge sequel. At this rate it will be done sometime around the time at which I am too old to drive.
Congrats!!!
Paul

Thank you for the compliments!
Much appreciated!

To answer an earlier comment about frame material wall thickness, yes .035 is light, but if you look at the chassis, I did my best to triangulate it.... Testing it will shown its true potential
Cheers

Thank you!
It's kinda comical to me as the build started off as a locost build... ha!
I had a count up and I got the cold sweats lol..... admittedly I went over board on some stuff. All Carbon body and Ohlins suspension etc. It ended up being north of $40K. I never intended it to get to that cost.... but the best laid plans often get side tracked :BH:
Cheers

Well I guess I won't complain too much about my 1200lb ride at one tenth the cost.

I'll still admire yours jealously though. It's a shame, I was supposed to go to Portland next weekend but had a change of plans, I would have loved to check it out in person. No Voodoo Donuts for me. :(

Voo Doo Donuts.... I'm sure you could talk them into sending them to you on dry ice

I can't bring myself to stand in line for an hour for a Bacon Maple bar... lol

I would of loved to show you the car. It's interesting the conversations you have with yourself after finishing (and during) the build as to what you would of done differently. I think it if it was a single seat open wheel car (with fenders) I could of finished the project in half the time. The body was a massive under taking. I would of liked to have the buck CNC router cut, but the cost quoted to me was stupid money! ($12K)

Anyway, going to be testing at the local Go Kart track next week! (I will post You Tube Video)

Cheers
