So today via a circuitous route I learned of the Suzuki R13B engines. :!:
First Jap engine I've ever desired to own. :shock:
Super light aluminum 16V twin-cam.
According to on-line specs it's claimed to make 100 HP and only weight 100 Lb's!
Of course it is ancient now, and I have no idea how expensive one might be in decent condition.
Saw pics of one in a Bug-Eye and it fit easily.
Also found threads of them in UK Locost.
Being designed for automotive use the oil system works, automotive type trans are easy to obtain, and it seems Kennedy makes an adapter to put them on VW trans.
Bike ITB's and even Webers have been done.

So, who is hoarding these, and I want one.

The G13B was used in the Suzuki Swift, and in nothing else in the US, as far as I know. I've found a couple for sale, but they were in cars and thousands of miles away...

Some of the later jellybean Geo Metros used the SOHC two-valve 1300 engine, which was ye olde G10 1-liter triple with an extra cylinder tacked on.

Caterham used the Japanese-market 660cc 3-cylinder version with a turbo in the 160 until Suzuki ran out of engines to sell them. The Chevy Sprint had the G10T as an option; the 1-liter triple with a turbo, intercooler, and multipoint injection.

Couple local to me in Canada, at a wrecker I have dealt with.

More like 180-190 lbs, I'd think.

They came in the Swift GTI, which cost more than a Civic SI. Accordingly, they sold poorly.

Even at 200 Lb., still lighter than a VW with twice the power and an extra 2K+ RPM. :D

If price and shipping are right I would be interested.

Edit: I think those cars were sold here for a limited time. I'm not positive, though. Maybe they were gray market?

Not grey market, but it seems that they were relatively few in number.
Kind of like the Abarth version of the new Fiat 500, more expensive means fewer sales.
I found an outfit in Florida advertising crate engines, at high to VERY high prices.

There is a place in San Diego that specializes in Japanese imports. That is, they actually import the parts from Japan as well as have parts from our domestic market. There is another, similar company in Los Angeles. You might try the San Diego outfit and see what they can do for you.

None of these places are cheap in my experience, but they may be able to locate what you need.

I am! But I'm only hoarding one of them. I bought a Swift GTi a dozen years ago for it engine, I stripped the electrical system and the rest of the necessaries, and got a Sidekick trans so I could put it in a front-mid-engine-rear-drive car The plan was to make MAX's evil twin.

However, at my (cough, cough) age, I've decided that anything I haven't touched in a decade is probably better off with a different home, so I'll send you a PM and we can discuss it further.
