The answer is... possibly. The transmission case side plates carry the bearings that support the diff section, so it's possible. Benefit: the T1 stub axle outputs mate up to existing T1 stub axles at wheels & you maintain use of standard VW Beetle axles.

Question:
How do you lubricate the inner spinny-bits? The ring gear is usually dipping into the lube & whipping it around the inside of diff assembly - without ring gear, would there be lubrication issues?

I forgot where I posted this for someone converting a bec to a T5.

On using the whole case, the bearings are designed for oil, not grease packing, so the engineering for speed and load on the existing size swapped for sealed should be considered.

Hawk makes billet aluminum driveshaft adapters that replace the small sprocket on bike output shaft -

http://www.hawkmachine.com/Parts.htm#20

They were the first maker I'm aware of, and others since have made adapters our of steel.
I have a Hawk adapter on my bike motor. The Legends car racers used the Hawk adapters toreplace the sprocket on bike motor & then bolted the driveshaft flange of the Toyota/Datsun driveshaft (oddly enough - MGB/MG Midget as well) to this & on to rear axle.

This is another style of output shaft adaptor - bolts on like the Hawk adapter does - http://store.uslegendcars.com/site/prod ... FDCCF3BDC3

There's even Patent from 1987 for connecting a motorcycle engine to the VW T1 transaxle... http://www.freepatentsonline.com/4645172.pdf

- a similar mount could be made using a Corvair to VW adapter plate as a starting point (I've been experimenting - I have one of these adapters laying around) > http://images.thesamba.com/vw/classifie ... 677980.jpg

Just some input from the dirt guys. The 1000cc+ motors are hard on the Alum. adaptors. I am using a Peter D's steel adaptor, alittle heavy but should be good for ever.

B85: Good point, as intended usage comes into play. And why discussions will continue to occur in regards to using/not using Guibo-style couplings in driveshafts...
