That said, I'm pretty sure 20v 4age's can take 5-7 lbs of boost on the plastic plenum.

But that doesn't mean you aren't playing with fire.

FWIW I got a good look at a GL1800 today for the first time. That engine is tiny.

This is a very old thread, but I thought I'd share what I was thinking about for a heater. I have a Miata powertrain in my locost, which I stripped off all the heater lines coming off the engine for a cleaner look.
Then, I drove my Miata in the winter, and it's dang cold without a little bit of heat on your feet. So, I started looking for electric heaters, and found this. At $200, it isn't locost, but is light and easy. For golf-carts and stuff:

Another thought: Why not use part of the exhaust pipe heat? I haven't done it yet but one of the two pipes (for the V-twin) I have in my car stick into the passenger footing area before going below the floor.

With the right combination of insulation to prevent burns, and a light fan, I'm sure it would cast off enough heat.

Anybody use heated seats from their donor? It would keep 1/2 of you warm.

Chuck has the germ of an interesting suggestion if you can remove the seat heating elements from your donor (or a junk yard car) and install in your Locost. It's maybe not too good if you have a Kirkey seat with minimal padding, though.

How about adopting the ideas of light planes or the old air cooled Vee-Dubs? They have been using engine or exhaust heat for the cabins for years. Maybe that was covered elsewhere in this thread? I haven't read the whole thing.

Cheers,

EDIT: Dumb! Put it underneath (duct tape :D )if your Kirkey isn't sitting on the deck.

Electric seat heating kits are available from one of the hot rod seat suppliers (forget who): seems easier than dismantling a junker's seats.

I really never gave that any thought. You are right. Looks like single seat heater kits are available for ~$50 on-up. Ebay has many as does Amazon and other places. Not too bad. Unfotunately, on my modular, quick-removable seats, it may be more of a hassle than a benefit.

After looking at the installation video on one site, I don't see any reason that a heater kit couldn't be implemented on a Kirkey seat. I think you would have to have a padded seat and add insulation between the heater and aluminum.
