I'm a little perplexed. I have been fooling around with figuring out the electrics and the coils on my 2001 R1 have me a little confused, ie. I am having trouble finding a spot to put them. There isn't much room between the carbs and the thermostat... oh, and what to hang 'em off of....Anybody have any experience?
Thanks in advance,
Joe Garrison

A picture would explain the situation much easier and stimulate ideas...

From my memory (buddy has a 2001 i worked on) that model has two coil packs. Each one has like 2 bolts that hold it down along with like 8in plug wires correct?

Well either way, go buy a piece of sheet aluminum and make a simple bracket that 3-4 bolts from the motor will hold down. Then bolt them to the bracket?

Thanks for the reply BlueDevil,
I was looking around on the british locost sit, and found a pic..I was figuing some sore of bracket, but it is going to be tight under the bonnet. I have some ideas and will get a chance to give it a try tomorrow. I think I have fallen victim to trying to do too many things at once. Its easy to get scattered that way. Thanks again. I hope to post some pics on the builders log Sunday.

I made 3 small brackets that the coils bolt to on the nearest chassis tube.

heres a pic.

Airframefixer: It took me a while to realize it, I felt something was odd with your engine installation. :D

For me the frame was too far from the engine to be able to mount them with the spark plug cables that came with the coils, so we made a mount like the one blue devil described. I tried to check if I had any pictures, but I don't, sorry.

One car I saw a while back had a really nice mount on top of the engine made of thin tubing. It had a spider web like pattern which made it the center point of attention in the engine bay.
