Was checking out the Fusion Racing CSR and stumbled on this. Fusion is also the Canadian distributor for this manufacturer. Oddly enough they aren't using the diff in their cars (telling of something?).

I have no association with either party. I'm just passing this along for your information.

The diff (a little steep)

The reverse box (no price yet)

My guess is that's just a Quick-Change rear end, installed into an IRS housing that is machined out of aluminum blocks. Neat, but like was mentioned, certainly not cheap at these production levels. It also appears that to get a LSD would be a cost-added option on top of the current price.

it looks like the diff box that sells for 1800 has reverse on it.it has a lever on one side.you can see it better if you open the drawing.cant think of any other reason that the diff box would have a shift lever on it.

The model number for the 1800 POUND unit is denoted as RB. In Brit terms I suspect this is Reverse Box for something of that nature. I suspect that there is no differential there and that this is only a reverse gear.

The interesting part is the input and output shafts. It looks like it's designed to mate to a sprocket and has a splined output shaft. No more prop shaft style flanges (until you have to mate the spline to something).

All these seem to be right around $3000 when it's all said and done.

Has anyone rigged up an additional starter motor in a manner that would move the vehicle in reverse? I'm not quite sure how it would be done and where the interaction between the starter motor and the drive line would be but it already has the required mechanism to engage and disengage. Use an existing flywheel and starter from a big truck engine and mount somewhere after the output of the transmission before the diff (or even on an axle shaft like an inboard brake?). Just a thought.

Yes indeed it has been done many times, and it works quite well.
I am sure if you do a search you will come across some good pictures.
The ones I remember have a ring gear mounted to the diff input shaft with the starter motor mounted to the diff.
I believe I have seen it with the ring gear mounted to the tail of the transmission too though.

I have the starter motor from my car parts donor and that is what I plan to use on my BEC.
