Like title says. I MADE a welding helmet.

*disclaimer, do not trust your eyesight with "homemade" masks, goggles, or any other form of protection*

I happen to be building a Locost, using my spare money (none) and my spare time, (little).

I arrived at this conclusion, mainly due to the time restraint. I work 10-14hrs a day, and get up whenever my kids do. That sometimes means coming home @ 4:30 a.m., and waking up @ 7:30 a.m. then going to work @ 2:00 p.m.

anyway, I just got done moving, and using up all my money in the process. Also, I found some stuff moving, mainly a Halloween mask, which I will never wear again, but also cost WAY too much to throw out. So.......if you have read my other posts.....I started spin-balling possibilities.

Then, I stumbled across auto darkening solar welding lenses, for $13 including shipping on ebay.

so this happened:

then I heavily silicone'd it into place.



and smeared silicone over the other parts of the lenses, to only allow light through the darkening lens

The mask also had a voice changing microphone inside, and a chest piece, to go with the costume, I obviously eliminated all. And although it looks it, the outside lenses aren't dark at all. Without the inside lens and the silicone on the inside, they were very transparent, and you could probably see the person's eyes through, although they were slightly tinted. I don't believe that will conflict the viewing during welding much, more so, the split, separate eyes, having a nose bridge in between, will be the most apparent, although I have noticed they are like Binoculars, and in spite of being a Halloween mask, seem to be very well spaced apart for eyesight.
