I'm looking at some 4130 alloy steel weld-on threaded bungs that would be TIG welded to mild steel DOM tubing. Does this mix present any problems from a metallurgy standpoint or require any special welding techniques? These would be for rod end adapters in suspension control arms. Appreciate any insights you can provide.

MacMaster's used to carry them in a variety off sizes, as for the welding issue...cannot help you, but I'.m sure someone here would know more, good luck

I used 4130 tubes for my suspension as I wanted the extra fatigue life. Reheated the weld areas with oxy-act torch, wrapped with asbestos cloth and cooled slowly to normalize. You can easily weld 4130 to mild steel. Use mild steel rod...I forget the number offhand. Check out one of the welding websites. Cool slowly as possible to reduce stresses.

ER70 filler is fine since its still stronger than the weakest material.
