Budget? 120V, 220V?

Cant go wrong with Miller or Lincoln if you can afford it.

I have a little 120V Northern Tool welder and I love it. Only thing I don'qt like about it is the heat settings. 1-4 is all you get, Id like to have more control of my heat selection. I paid a little over $400 for mine. Its a MIG and a flux, I always use gas when I weld, just works out better that way, and its a cleaner weld.

Not an expert, but I'm pretty happy with my millermatic 175. The control on thin stuff is very good. I've welded up holes on very thin sheet with no warping or blowouts. I've run 2 large spools of wire through it with no issues. I also like that it's small so takes up less room and is somewhat portable. I'm not a fan-boy, but I've tried several welders and the millers always seem easiest to work with.

Cheers.

I don't know my Lincoln equivalents as well, but it's hard to go wrong with the Millermatic 211. Think of it as a MM180 with dual (120/240) voltage inputs and more power. Although the smaller form factor and ~50% weight reduction in the newer MM190 should be a pretty fantastic option too, if never expecting to need or want the additional plug/output.

$1400 MSRP. Sounds like a good deal to me. Make sure you weld a bead with it before you buy if it comes with a bottle and some extras, I'd go for it.

Have you considered the wire feed units that run off the arc welders transformer? I have one and its nice and light. just need long leads and a gas pipe.
