I'm to the point where its time to start attaching panels to the Traveller and since most of the seams are external the work will be somewhat visible. Its down to either buying a spot welder or drilling dozens of holes for plug welding then having to grind every plug weld flush.

Does anyone have the 110v one from HF? How does it work?

I have the 110 volt Harbor Freight spot welder. You clamp the copper electrodes together and then there's a little switch you can turn the electricity on - the longer you hold it the hotter the weld. the problem is the first weld works very well but the more weld's you do the electricity goes through all the old welds and there's less heat going through the newest weld. for a big projects ( more than 2 feet ) I would go with the 220 spot welder. If you were closer I'd lend it to you but its heavy and shipping would be terrible.

I like the locust version. Looks easy to make and that it'll work well.

Good info guys - thanks. The thought of making one is intriguing but since I'm doing multiple panels on a body I'm guessing the HF 110v unit won't have enough juice.

The HF one is also rated for a 110v/13A supply. The weakest Miller one is 110v/30A. That probably explains why the HF one falls short on big projects. If I had easy access to 220v I'd be set. My 4000 watt generator has a 220v plug but I don't think 18A will be enough to run a welder.

Thanks for the offer Jim. If you were local it would be a different story.

I'm probably better off just plug welding and griding. :?
