Thinking about using the front and rear suspension sets and their sub-frame so I don't need to build them. What do you all think ?

Would be using what I have. A transaxle from a WRX and a H6 3.0 motor. OR ?

What about using the C5 Vett stuff and then add the LS1 and the auto transaxle ? (easer to work with) The diff is where the car being made to be used for. 908-3.
The LS1 is only 35 Lbs. more than the 908's 8 cylinder motor. I don't know what the Porsche stuff is ?
The problem with the manual Vett trans is the shifter. But if it could be moved to the top of the tran,s that would be great.
BUT ? I only have 48" to fit a 54.5" package into using the Vett stuff. Cooling would be like the 986-987 .

What about making the wheel base longer ? I'm starting with 94". The LS1 system is 54.5" and I have 48" ? That is like 4" more +-.

So I sell what I have and move to the LS1 stuff or just use what I have ?

Thanks for the input !
Randy

Anything that helps move a build along is a good thing, but if it needs modding, steel subs are easier and cheaper.

The subie trans sticks out the back pretty far past the axle and most wheels. Vulnerable.

A shifter can be made remote with cables.

A longer wheelbase is more stable at speed.

Its more the way the Vett shifter is not the running of the cables. In the photo you can see the shift rod coming out of the fron of the case into the bellhousing.
The other arrow points to the revers solenoid. Been thinking maybe the shifter could be moved to this area ? Need to do more looking.

And yes the Subaru trans would stickout. But it would be a compromise.

Don't use the vette cased trans. This would get you a normal shifter behind the engine. Then you can use cables to bring it up front.

The LS as found in the FWD GM cars is shorter in length than the RWD variant. I don't remember the exact amount but it was a big thing for those swapping the V8s into Fieros. Might be worth researching so you don't have to lengthen the wheel base.

Sorry I cant speak to the Corvette subframes.

People have dealt with the shifter before, just need to figure out what they did. My bigger concern for a not-wonky-looking replica (or even 'inspired by') is proportions. On the face of it, the Subaru would be better proportioned to a 908/2 and the Vette better proportioned to a 908/3. If the engine is going to be completely covered, that won't really matter though beyond the Subaru transaxle hanging way out in the open behind the car. The other proportional consideration is that the driver sat with their feet basically at the leading edge of the front tire, which your numbers seem to indicate that you're not inclined to do. Moving the driver back a foot relative to the front wheels is a significant proportional change already. Extending the wheelbase softens this, but if I'm not mistaken you're already ~4 inches over the original. Now you're talking ~8 inches of growth. The overall effect though should be some softening of the driver location difference. So I'd probably be leaning that way.

Unfortunately, the shorter FWD LS was also a FWD bellhousing pattern.

That's the LS4. It has the v6-60 pattern if memory serves.

The problem with that is I still need to rear adaptor for the Diff.

Here is a photo of the stuff under the Vett revers detent cover.
I have never looked into this area befor. Not sure their is room for a shifter ball socket ?
The photos are from a FWD/GTO case.

No experience with the vette drivetrain....

Besides cutting the rod so it won't protrude into the pp and possibly needing to fit a freeze plug in the hole to prevent oil loss, the sleeve could have a boss welded on to fit a 3/8 bolt and jamb nut for a removable lever, bolt on a top plate with a fabbed gate or bolt heads toward the lever with jamb nuts to adjust the limit on how far you can force the lever/roll pin (like a hurst shifter) with the select and shift cables, also mounted to the top plate. Limit the travel at the shifter in the same way to prevent breaking a cable. Use universal marine steering cables with 1/4 threaded ends. Probably need six foot cables to clear the engine and fire sleeve big enough in ID to clear a cable end. Drive your reverse sol external at the top plate.

I believe the front cover and accessories are what make the LS4 shorter and can be swapped to an LS1.
