Well, I have this now, so I guess it will eventually be a project build. If it doesn’t work out, it will be a super-cool piece of garage wall art.

It’s a “one-off” 5/8 to 3/4 scale replica of a GTP car and has an uncanny resemblance to the iconic Porsche 962. In my mind I can see it finished in either Rothman or Lowenbrau livery.

I love the look of those things, but at "5/8-3/4" are you still going to fit? Assuming the original driver was around 70" tall, are we to assume you're 44-52" tall? Just wondering where that room's going to come from, and why on earth would someone make a scale version?

Where do you obtain a windshield?

I’m going to lay it all out in the shop tomorrow and get some more specific dimensions(length, width, wheelbase and height. I’ll also sit under the canopy and see just how much room there is. I don’t believe there will be any issue with fitment. If all else fails, wall art it will be.

Single seat street cars are legal in Nevada so long as they are light enough. :)
There is a local guy driving a bright yellow Sprint Car as a daily commuter when the weather is decent.
I hope to catch up with him and get details of his registration process.

I don’t think that’s a valid argument as I fit equally as well in a 125cc shifter cart, Formula Vee and Formula Ford as I have in an Indy car. A Lotus 7 and a Suburban also. As long as the drivers compartment is large enough to accommodate an adult, the overall size of the body shouldn’t matter.

1000cc bike motor, chain-drive Quaife differential, Ohlins shocks, doubles-arm suspension on all 4 corners. This is just in my head and it’s already getting expensive! Can’t wait!!!!!

I love this. If everything starts going better for me in acquiring parts we can have the best build threads on the site for a while.

How about just building the cars and let others assess what builds are "best", instead of self-awarding it before you even start. You've set a very high bar...

Agree somewhat. The shell sets the space available for tire diameter. On the real race car, suspension travel is probably about 2". Assuming this is driven on the street (will it?) it'll need at least twice that, so that'll be a challenge that can't be ignored. Tire width on the other hand can be hidden by offsetting the tires inboard, though that'll detract from available suspension space.

The engine, sure a sportbike engine and transmission would be a nice choice as long as you're okay with the consequences. Again, if it's driven on the street, a bike engine is something of a fickle b*tch, moody yet high-strung, never mind not having reverse.

So you still haven't answered where the windscreen is coming from. Also, do you know why the scale version was created in the first place. A shop display maybe?

Hmm, comparing to the original it looks like the cockpit is a bit out of proportion to the rest of the body.
Taller, and narrow to accomodate a single driver?
What was the original intent of this shell?
"One off", so the molds have been destroyed?

Of course it’s a bit out of scale as far as the cockpit “bubble”. It looks even more “out of proportion” in person, but it is what it is. It looks 1000% better than in the original configuration.

So here’s the story that I got. The car was originally built in England as a sort-of “concession kart” for corporate events and parties. Somehow one of these found it’s way to British Colombia where it began its transformation. If you look at the original pix, it was very strange looking! Proportions were WAY off!. The owner was a fiberglass master and decided to cut the car apart and transform it into a closer replica of a modern-day(80’s/90’s) GTP car. The one picture shows where he decided to cut and lengthen it. I have the original roof and other pieces he cut out. He built the door scoops/intakes as well as the rear body vents. The fiberglass work is unbelievable! Also the door windows, headlight covers and original windscreen. Since he changed the “greenhouse”, I will need to fabricate a new windscreen, but should be able to use the original as a basis.

The original car was powered by a 2-cylinder 2-stroke snowmobile driven thru a CVT, a variety of jackshafts and IRS. There was a new chassis fabricated after the body was lengthened but never finished. The intent was a 4-cylinder bike motor as well.

When the gentleman in Virginia purchased the body, supposedly the frame wasn’t included. Anyway, 15 years later, that’s the story that I got and the body pieces that I have. Now it’s up to me to either build it as a track day/hillclimb car or simply paint it and sticker it in some historic livery and make it wall art. I’m sure if painted/stickered very well, some Porsche collector might want it for their garage.

Look up ”Diasio” for someone else’s take on a GTP replica. Awesome race cars!

OK, so a bigger touring bike engine for the torque and make it street driven.
