Post subject:	Mid Engine Locost Chassis Plans and Donor Selection?
Hey, So i have been looking to make a locost for some time now and want to jump on it. I was going to at first make a front mounted engine Locost, but wanted instead to make a MEB. I was wondering if there were actually any plans for chassis like there are for the Front Engine Builds. I am mostly a composite and electrical person, not really mechanical. I still haven't really figured out how I am able to hook the engine to the differential, and whatnot when its put in the rear... can anyone give me some advice on that. I am also trying to find a donor with a decent engine either NA or SC... I already have an Audi S4, and want something that isn't turbocharged. Can anyone give me a hand. Thanks Alot!

Thanks for the input, I just wanted general information about some stuff... MEB ... Mid Engine Build? I dunno....Everything i looked at for Mid Engine stuff was either stuff about the suspension or the engine, which doesn't help me in the beginning lol... I'm checking out those links as I am typing this, I just wish the one with the database error worked.... and yeah That other car looks like a duck

If you use a front wheel drive engine and transmission, then I don't think you need to worry much about how to attach the differential. I'm planning on using a neon engine/transaxle, but if you want something a bit hotter then I would get a GM ecotec engine with a FWD transaxle. With the stock supercharger that engine makes over 200HP. It's also an aluminum block, and I believe that the exhaust exits the rear of the engine. I'm not sure about the exhaust, but if it does that's a big plus for a mid engine build. I imagine Kurt devoted a few words to that issue in his book, which I think sounds good for you. You can also check out my blog in my signature, i'm not too far along with my build but i'll be posting my frame design soon - though it technically isn't a locost. I don't see why you can't just shorten the front of a regular locost and then lengthen the rear a little to fit the engine back there. I think someone built one like this already, but i'm not sure who. It seems like it was a Grassroots Motorsports project or something, does anyone know what I am talking about?

I checked out all of your links and i started to sketch my own plans to make my own frame using some elements from other people. Of course i will be building my own body out of fiberglass. I still have yet to choose an engine, but I will be sure to pick up Kurts book... it seems like a good read and i think it will really help me out... I just need to get my hands on a decent Mig Welder too .... I was thinking RWD, but i dont like drifting in a car like that so I might as well go FWD... probably will be easier too...

Just to muddy the waters....my Locost is a mid-engine car. All of the engine sits rearward of the front axle line. So...I guess we need to clarify if we're talking about front-mounted mid-engined cars or rear-mounted mid-engined cars...

bahhhh you stick in the mud... i meant behind the driver, and i might be in a tossup of fwd and rwd, i forgot when you go fwd you start to get alot of problems.... in any car... wheel hop ... ripping axles out... i dont want that... but its more convenient sometimes...
