The intent is probably to hope that the ref has never seen an At-om. If they think it does not resemble a previously manufactured car, it should go to 1960 automatically. However, if they do decide that it looks like its from the 1990s, you're kinda SOL.
Basically, it depends on interpretation- does it mean a)typical of the time period (and what makes it typical), or b) like something from that time period?

Here's an At-om: http://www.lotustalk.com/forums/f152/ariel-atom-16745/index2.html#post291240
And somebody's page about registering his At-om in CA http://www.andysatom.com/legal.html Doesn't tell much detail though

The SB100 allows you to claim that the vehicle is a REPLICA of a vehicle built before the smog laws were inacted.

Since we are building a replica of a 1965 Lotus 7, what engine we are putting in the vehicle does not matter, unless we say that it does ("we" being the ones that built the replica).

Basically, it comes down to what WE want.
Do we want it to be registered as a (insert engine model year here) Lotus 7?

Or

Do we want it to be registered as a 1957 to 1973 lotus 7?

In the case of a At-om copy:

"If the engine or the vehicle does not sufficiently resemble one previously manufactured, the referee will assign 1960 as the model-year."

So register it as a: "knickly 01"

dan were you able to register your car? Looking into an At-om replica style build and curious how it went for you

EDIT: After some reading, I found that the At-om itself is actually a kit car so even a new Ar-i-el At-om is registered as 1960 model. In fact they used to sell At-om kits apparently

Pancake, FYI the last post in this log was 2010, don't be disappointed if you don't receive an answer.
