I lift the car with my engine crane on the roll bar. For a Locost you should be able to work something out.

Now that is an interesting thought. A gantry and a chain fall suitable for 2000# (Locost + safety factor) would be pretty cheap. A hoisting cradle to slip under the car would be easy to make. With a little foresight during the build (too late for me) some hoisting lugs could be attached to the frame and/or cage. I'll have to think about this a bit.

I want one of these hoists quite badly. I tried to get my parent's interested in it (I still live at home), but they wont let me get one. I guess I need to get my own place before I get my own....

I have even see guys put them in their driveways! They will put them in for the weekend, and unbolt them and store them during the week.

For those that want to see a bunch of guys who already have them, check out this forum: http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=35763&highlight=maxjax and http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=38842&highlight=maxjax (I think you need to be a member to see most of the pics)

How much $$$?

"Current retail price stands at $1999 plus as much as $280 shipping"

-Yes, you can get a full sized lift for that, but for 90% of the people on this forum, there is no space for a full sized one, but there is for a MaxJax.

I would really like one of these, but the lack of my own house tells me it won't happen.

One of the great pleasures of a formula car or a Locost ( which is pretty similar not counting a few pounds of fenders... ) is how much easier they are to work on.

Here's a lift, it folds flat against a wall or comes apart easily, no bolts. Plenty strong enough for a Locost.

These are the stands I use. Just simple metal tubing sawhorses. They fold when not being used and take up no space. Good for 1000 lbs apiece. They've held my FF up for the last 20 years. Really got to get that going this summer...

AN engine crane should be enough to lift a Locost onto the sawhorses. Lift each end at a time. You would need a temp support about half way up. A bit of a pin, but if you can't put in a huge lift, you get all the benefit for a couple extra minutes of fiddling around.
