Are you absolutely sure that it is M12X1.25 that you need? (As in threaded a different M12x1.25 bolt in the hole). I've special ordered fasteners before when I had estimated the size of the hole by trying all the bolts I had and figuring it's in between the closest ones and haven't had much success with that method. It's tough to measure internal thread and if they are taped into something big and heavy you can't really bring it to the hardware store with you. I looked at fastenal and if they and mcmaster don't have you're probably in trouble. Show us where and why you need that specific fastener and maybe we can find another solution.
Well, it took me all morning, but Plan "B" (from Outer Space!! For all you Bad B Movie fans!!) is in full effect! And much more successful than Mr. Woods movie was!
Glen.. I started to suspect something was amiss and decided to get some generic bolts (not the flat heads) and see what worked. That M12x1.25 is a bear to find and expensive($4), but I got one, so a few hours later I'm ready to test!
The verdict?? Make sure your thread gauge is accurate!!! Apparently my thread gauge is/was mis-stamped and showed me that it was a 1.25... turns out it is actually a 1.75. (it's a "2"... clear as day) I didn't have a 1.75 on the thread gauge or I would have been able to see it was wrong immediately. Wonder how many other guys this little FUBAR has made go insane looking for the incorrect bolts?
It wouldn't have been so bad but when I sold my older car (same engine), I sold all the parts with it, so I had no "extra" hardware to test it against before getting to this point. The gauge is now in the trash bin and I placed an order with Graingers (actually cheaper than McMs and local) for the bolts I needed so I'll be able to get a start on my adapter plate this weekend if the back order on my drill bit clears!
Thanks for all the help and ideas from the forum! I appreciate it!
