Hi Everyone,

I'm not sure where to post a general hello, so I'll try to put some real content in this post as well.

I've been doing some internet research over the last couple of years about Locost Sevens, read a couple of books (Haynes and How to Build a Cheap Sportscar) and I am fairly certain I am going to build one of these cars from a kit. I'm leaning towards the Deman kit with a Hayabusa engine. I have family in Southern Ontario, so next time I am there I plan to stop by Glencarin to visit the Deman Motorsport folks and check out the product in person before I buy.

At the moment I am building a larger garage to accomodate my car hobby, I've been tinkering with a Porsche 924 for years. Mechanically I am fairly confident, I've rebuilt engines but never transmissions, I've done suspension work, brake work, clutch, all the usual stuff. My only concern is that I know zero about bike engines. But I love the lightweight idea, and the scream of the BEC's is hard to deny.

Anyway, glad to be here.

Chrenan

Welcome... I'm also a newbie! I'm hoping to go with a kit too, and I am also leaning toward the Deman. I'm a Miata junkie, so I will be going with their Miata based kit.

Thanks! I'll have to think long and hard about whether I want the Miata or bike engine. Tough decision as both have their merits.

Welcome!

What part of Alberta? I'm in Lethbridge right now but my car is still in Airdrie. There are a handful of Alberta builders now. I say a completed Deman in BC. Lovely car.

check out Ramtuff's build (he's in Edmonton)

Hi Dave!

I've been checking Ramtuff's threads, pretty neat to see some other local guys here. I'm in Edmonton, but I usually get down to Lethbridge twice a year. What kind of kit are you building? Isn't there a guy selling Luego kits near Airdrie? That was another kit I was looking at, but it seems harder to get info on those compared to Deman.

He's in Innisfail - http://halerconcepts.com/ - I bought his demo pile of parts. He is just a reseller of the UK Luego kit so the Deman folks would know more. I'd look at the UK board www.locostbuilders.co.uk for info on Luegos - not sure how many have bike engines. Mine has a Toyota 4AGE four cylinder car engine.

OK guys, I updated my profile, I'm in Edmonton, Alberta. I'm definitely going to have to build from a kit, I don't have the welding or fabrication skills to build from scratch, but that is a true locost.

My my... Another one from Edmonton. A few more and we could start up a hockey team. But I think I'd have a tough time putting my stick & equipment in the trunk of a 7. I guess there's always the passenger seat. Welcome to the forum!!

I am amazed at the number of Alberta people on here. Who would have thought the 7 concept would be so popular in the land of the pickup?

Out of curiousity, how big are most guys driving these cars? At 6'2", 195 lbs and size 12 feet, should I be looking at the larger frame options available?

I'm 5'10" 200lbs  got loads of room in mine as it's waaay oversize.

Main problem with being here in Alberta are the straight roads and the gravel, it's like driving along in a war zone with bullets whizzing past your left ear! No bends, no fun. :(

Nice one GavinR! How did you find the registration process? My biggest worry.

Thankyou, you're welcome to come see it although the motor is out of it at the moment.

I found it relatively straightforward. Make sure you keep receipts for everything. The Alberta assigned VIN was a breeze, a chap just came and kicked the tires, checked the receipts of the major components and rivetted on a VIN plate. Then an Out of Province where the guy was in awe of the car and spent most of the time driving it around the block. Most difficult bit was getting the insurance, but State Farm came through in the end as I have the rest of my vehicles and house insurance with them.

Cheers, GavinR
