Interesting. Years and years ago, they used to use parafin wax diluted in mineral spirits, kerosene or even gasoline to seal duck cloth (canvas) tents. I think that the silicone would work nice on a twill fabric, not one of the fluffy velour types. It may not gove the benfit of fabric breathing. ie I think you'd sweat like it was vinyl.

FWIW, I don't bother. My seats are fabric and are foam on plywood construction(basically). I carry a few plastic garbage bags under the seat that I could slip over in case thet get soaked. So far, I have not had to use them in 3 years.

In that scenario, wouldn't he be better off with an under-seat, catch can?
