Sorry for the tangent, but the talk of Hobbs meters reminded me that I've long thought cars should come with tach-timers, which rack up time faster at high rpms than low rpms. Once there was enough data out there to understand how tach-time correlates to miles driven, or simply if they came with a hobbs (hour) meter too, it would be easy to tell just how truthful the 'all highway and driven by a little old lady' the miles really are. I've strongly considered trying to incorporate one or both on my Locost build, mostly for the fun of it, but also to potentially provide some interesting data.

I can dig up the wiring diagram for the Mitsu sensor

Please!

This is off an 01 Montero Sport (engine donor for my brothers truck).

Pin 1 is 12V from the "run" position, and is a black/white wire on the harness
Pin 2 is signal, and is yellow/white
Pin 3 is ground, and is solid black

I'm still not 100% on the connector, since we never grabbed the sensor when we stripped the donor in the junkyard, since we assumed we wouldn't require one.

Some people never have anything except ideas. Go do it.
Emissions & fuel economy haven't exactly been areas of strength for past rotary power plants, but absolutely no one with a soul has ever cared.

I have always thought the hour meters a better indication of service intervals over mileage. How can a timing belt on a city car that runs for two hours to achieve ten miles be compared to an urban driver that covers that distance in ten minutes. Its probably the main reason for so many belt failures.

This subject is very interesting to me, getting old instruments to work in new ways. Unfortunately I am from a pre electronics age and have no idea what all the acronyms mean. Could someone in the know please give us Neanderthals a dictionary?

In NASA-speak, that would be a "Ratio Selection Actuator."

MAG: Maximum Absorbency Garment = astronaut diaper
EVU: Extravehicular Mobility Unit = spacesuit
UCD: Urine Collection Device = Texas catheter
TCU: Thermal Control Undergarment = long johns
LRV: Lunar Roving Vehicle = car

I'm a founding member of PAUSAA: People Against the Use of Stupid Ass Acronyms.

But back on track for a moment. How about an app that tracks wherever your phone goes and how fast it got there, like MapMyRide.com

I used to use expensive mapping software on tablets and laptops to map assets and tracks that my vehicles would take and overlay that data on Google Earth backgrounds and before that on USGS TOPO Maps.

My ram has a built in hour meter and a key cycle counter to.

Green sheets!!! I can't tell you how many times I've been lost on some coal company's land in WV (or VA, or KY, or TN) using those little jewels! This was waaaa-aaaay before all those electronic marvels you describe, we'd just fold one up and toss it on the dashboard. Good stuff, those 7.5 minute topo sheets...

Sorry for the interruption, y'all can go back to your discussion now.
