A newer car's seat belts, that have the explosive cartridges can be used as a regular seat belt? I'm thinking about Mazda MX-5 NC seat belts.

WHAT!
Why would seat belts have explosive cartridges incorporated into them?
This make NO sense to me.

To pull the belt in case of an accident.

Pre-tensioners. Rapid retraction to effectively harness you to the seat in the event of a crash & put you in a more suitable position to meet the airbag with your face.

It's not to break/cut them, it's to tighten an overly-loose belt before impact.

Ah, an additional expense to "Solve" a "Problem" affecting 0.0008% of the population.
Now it makes perfect sense.

Perhaps. I thank Subaru for having them. A week ago, my son and family were in an accident that totaled their 6 mo old Outback. Everyone came out with nothing more than a few bumps and bruises. The explosive seat belts did activate along with all of the airbags. I am sure that their survival was a direct result of the airbags and seatbelts doing their jobs. Metal is expendable. Flesh, less so.

Great to hear, that everybody got out OK.
But what do you think, these seatbelts could be used as a regular basic seatbelt, of course I would not connect that cartridge.

I am no expert. I seem to recall that these explosive seatbelts had a sewn in loop that the explosive charge breaks. My memory may be a decade or two old. or possibly just somebody's internet guessing. I would not put used belts in any form in a Locost build when so many other options are reasonably priced. Just my opinion.
