If you center mount the gauges then you can have a higher "cutout" below the steering wheel for more knee room.
I prefer center mounted gauges, just seems more correct to me, but I just recently picked up a set of period correct dynamo powered lamps for my 30 year old bicycle. ... 8)
Here's what one of our members provided as his solution http://locostusa.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=11851

Anyone have pictures of a 442 with Clam shells? And could you let me know if the fenders were widened? Thanks Allan

OlderJack- Thanks, wow those footwells look tight, seems like a dead pedal is out of the question lol. Not even sure if my size 10.5 feet have a chance. Has anyone tried a SMG :D. But seriously, if I off set the engine trans, do I also reduce the stub axle length for the diff on that side as well, or do I let the driveshaft make up for the offset and keep the diff centered?

Al- The pictures did not post, at least I can't see them. Perhaps it's the site you have them on. I'm currently working overseas and the link may be firewalled. If so, can you email your pics. Thanks Allan

Allan, the photos were off my webshots site, I will look up the originals, in the meantime maybe a link to my build page will show what I did. Photos are about half way down the page on both links.
