Does anyone know why my rear fenders have a pronounced curvature in the vertical plane? The rear inside lower edge curves in (towards the frame centerline) by about an inch. I believe they are originally from CMC. I can bend the lower rail so that it lines up with that lower edge, but I can't see that the bodywork will line up. I'm more inclined to make the bottom rail plumb with the top, and then trim the fender. Any thoughts?
Thanks.

That's so the rear fender will transition onto the curve leading to the back panel

It looks like it was originally made to follow the radius where the rear panel meets the side panel? If so, this would only work for a specific chassis. I believe mine were from CMC (before I widened them) and did not have a noticable curvature. Not any really. My fender ends right where the panel radius begins. I see some quality-time with resin and glass may be in your future.

P.S. it looks like TooBusy beat me to it.

The mold for them were most likely pulled from a set of Caterham wings, and as stated they follow the radius of the rear panel.

Thanks guys,
that's what I was kind of thinking. As Chuck says, there will be some quality time spent on plastic surgery. Which was planned anyway, for the trailing arm holes; might as well get really dirty :ack:

Yo,Martin-
Are they fiberglass or plastic? If they're FG, use a very fine bladed saw and go slowly when cutting them or they'll crack all to heck. Sometimes it helps to put masking tape on both sides where the cut is. (Added bonus, you can draw a big ol' black line on the tape where ya wanna cut!) You might want to give it an extra 1/4 inch or so and sand to a smooth edge after you cut.

Good luck with it, Bro!

Mine fenders were the same, in the end I just cut a long V in the fenders to bring the profile in and re fiberglassed them.
