All the Lola MK1 photos I looked at, none had USA license plates. Not withstanding Jack's Lalo, which has no windshield at all, The photos all look like the line of sight was above the clear lexan, making it a wind
screen not wind
shield.
I suppose in the right state, licensed at the right time, and with the right inspector, or an unlimited amount of bribery, anything is possible,
And in opposition to NGPMike, my state,Illinois, would not exempt 1957 and before vehicles. it would be 1935 as shown below.
In Illinois:
Quote:
Every motor vehicle operated upon the highways of this State shall be equipped with a front windshield which complies with those standards as established pursuant to this Section and Section 12-503 of this Code. This subsection shall not apply to motor vehicles designed and used exclusively for off-highway use, motorcycles, motor-driven cycles, motorized pedalcycles, nor to motor vehicles registered as antique vehicles, expanded-use antique vehicles, custom vehicles, or street rods when the original design of such vehicles did not include front windshields.
further:
Quote:
(b) No person shall knowingly sell any 1936 or later model motor vehicle unless such vehicle is equipped with safety glazing material conforming to specifications prescribed by the Department wherever glazing material is used in doors, windows and windshields..........
and
Quote:
c) It is unlawful for the owner or any other person knowingly to install or cause to be installed in any motor vehicle any glazing material other than safety glazing material conforming to the specifications prescribed by the Department.
So if you have a windshield, on a Locost, it must be of safety glass as prescribed by the Department(which basically is laminated AS-1), even if it was registered as a 1960 vehicle which mine is. Illinois is an early adopter of the SEMA laws. Not all states have such lenient laws. I Think, if I built an At-om in Illinois, then I could not have it licensed as a Custom vehicle. Then I would be like other non-SEMA states. It would definitely need a windshield and it would need to be laminated AS-1 glass.
