I'm currently using dsuz fasteners for my hood but they're a pain in the ass. Anyone tell me what you're using?

For example what is Jeff using on his beast?

Hi Paul-
I don't know 'zackly what Jeff used on his car, however, if you go to McMaster-Carr's website and do a search for "Draw Latches" you'll find several examples. You may be able to find them locally at hardware stores/home builder supplies, etc.

i riveted a 1" x1" aluminum box section along the bottom of my hood sides, then fitted some hood pins into the chassis top tubes, then used "R" clips to hold the hood on the pins.

you can see them at the bottom of the side grills, i made the pins from 1/2" bolts and bought the "R" clips from the hardware store, very secure and very very cheap.

Yeah, I looked at this and while they look really cool, more work than I want to spend installing latches. Something that goes on top of the metal rather than needed large holes will just be easier for me to mount. I found a few latch options once I had some good google search words.

Thanks.

Yes, but you are obviously a skilled craftsman, so that won't work for some of us.

This is a timely thread, though, since I'm going to have to do this shortly. I like the Aerocatch latches but they're about 60 years ahead of anything else on my car, so they might look out of place. And McMaster-Carr has too big a selection, so finding the one correct latch there is going to be really tricky. I'll try my local Ace hardware store.

I just some larger, higher quality looking toolbox drawer latches. Local hardware store had them.

My build partner, Tom, has some great latches on the hood of his 7:

Southco C7-10 latches .JPG
These are marine grade rubber latches with stainless steel hardware (used in boating.) They pull easy, stretch a little and cinch up nice and tight! From what I've seen, I like these the best. I just found them on eBay for $68.88 for four latches:

Here's a link to the Southco spec sheet with detailed information:

I'm ordering mine now!

I'm using 6139A28 from McMaster - no complaints so far.

although the ones on e-bay look the same, the devil is in the details, the hook part is inferior to the other type and this will bend! causing loss of tension.
