One thing I noticed about hood stiffness was how critical the latches were.

The first set I installed were the typical rubber dune buggy ones. I tried to get too much preload out of them and the metal parts bent. I bought a second set of all metal latches from McMaster and they were able to handle the higher preload.

My hood is 0.040" and it doesn't flex, rattle, or lift even at high speeds.
