so if i build another car, it must have a roof and A.C.

what do i have in the way of cars and parts to use,

well i have,
a 34 roadster body
a vw transaxle with inboard disc brakes
highly modified alford and alder front spindles with ford 4 stud hubs
porsche steering rack
t-bird rear uprights with vw inserts and vw hubs with ford 4 stud pattern
a complete porsche 914, all be it rusty as hell just for the engine
an old volvo shell
4 polyurathene springs

so however interesting these parts may be, are they leading me down the road that i eventually wish to travel?

if i were to build a track car for autocross, i would have almost everything but a chassis,
which i could build as it is relatively cheap.
the problem is i would have to trailer it about 150 miles to the nearest autocross event one way and the same back, this at about 10 mpg is going to break me in a couple of events at about $3.00 a gallon plus entry and misc. stuff.

but if i built a car that was about the size of a lotus 23 but had a roof and A.C. i could drive it to the events and save almost $50.00 a time.

does anyone know how to get a porsche roof, windshield and doors on a lotus 23 or something similar?

of course there is always the additional expenses like registration and tax plus insurance, maybe this would offset the fuel costs of trailering to an event?

believe me, this A.C. thing is of paramount importance as it is so hot here like 120 degrees and lately become humid as in monsoon that any distance over 20 miles is hell to drive home from when you've been out in the heat all day without A.C.

this is my dylema folks, any suggestions?

I'm not sure I can help but I've had those same thoughts for the past two years. Summers in Sacramento are only 110 degrees, but that kind of heat in a car with no roof takes a lot of the fun out of driving. I'd like to find a fiberglass shell with a built-in roof, something like an old Fiberfab Jamaican, and fit that to a Locost frame. AC on top of that would be a dream.

I've always fancied something similar, though the 23 doesn't quite look right with a top on it. The Elva Mk 7 did look decent when they turned it into this:

Then there is the Diva Valkyr:

Both cars have a similar chassis design to the Lotus 23, but look a little better with a top. The biggest draw back is finding a suitable windscreen.

Failing that, you keep an eye out for a Lotus Europa bodyshell to cut up....

I know where you can get a Lotus Eclat really cheap if you want to drive to Arkansas... the Eclat meets your requirements, but it's one fugly car, though.
