I am looking for some rubber edging to cover the sharp edge of the aluminum in several place on my car.

I've made panel edging out of rubber vacuum tubing. Make a cutting mandrel from two pieces of wood clamped in a vise. Drill a hole in the two wood blocks at their interface that is the OD of the tube, about 1/2" down from the top of the blocks. Put the tube stock between the blocks with a short pigtail out of one side. Push a razor blade/exacto knife half way through the tube. Then clamp the assembly in a vise. Pull the pigtail end through the mandrel and you get split tubing. I've used this as edging where the tube is captured by the paneling. For freestanding edging, glue would be required.

I bought my rubber edging from Fastenal. I think it was around $25 for a 50' roll of the stuff for 1/16" edges. It's just plain rubber and needs to be glued on though. They have a few different profiles you can choose from too.

It's also about a buck a foot at McMaster, but it's great stuff. You can also get shorter lengths, 10 feet or so.

i find U-shaped door edge guard with PSA (pressure sensitive adhesive ) works real good for protecting edges of panels .
you can buy it in chrome , mat black , gloss black and clear in a plastic or soft rubber .
it comes in rolls of different sizes from 10 to 25 feet .
3M i find to have one of the better quality stuff on the market .
the plastic you will want to heat up in the sun or with a heat gun to make it more pliable .
i buy it from autobody supply stores .

fastenall, grainger, or an electrical supply house if you have one nearby.
