Since this thread was helpful in getting my head around the whole design of the fender mounts, I thought I add mine to the collective. MiataV8's doodle was most helpful, and I came up with something very close.
I had two criteria, strength and ease of removal. The horizontal stay bolts to the fender, through a rubber pad, and then a shaft slides into the vertical stay. The shaft is treaded, and rosette welded to the horizontal stay, and an Allen head bolt secures it. The assembly bolts to the upper ball joint and the lower caliper bracket. I used 4130 tubing (0.625x0.058) and TIG welded it. Hopefully this will satisfy the strength part of the equation.

Were did you get fenders? I think you need to spred the load on the fiberglass more. Maybe just a bigger pad to fender? The rest of mount looks good to me.

Thanks, Langan.
I'll keep an eye on the pads. There is a compound curvature to deal with, so that was the largest I could fit comfortably, with the rubber taking up the discrepancy. The fenders are well made. Here is the link

Mine have made it through 7K miles, a lot of that thrashing on bumpy back roads. I think keeping the tube bending to a minimum has helped, along with the 3/16" thick straps.

Another mount idea, Guys. Made from aluminum so pretty light.

i used the 3 bolts of the dust shield, a straight plate with 2 added mounting point for a tubular setup. it works well, this is how the Deman SR20 was made. i should get pictures next time that i go to the storage of my car.

Yes, please do that when you can, Bob. It sounds like it may be simpler.

Cheers,

Lonnie
