Post subject: Tire to body clearance

This will probably sound like a dumb question BUT.... What would be a respectable clearance between the inside of the rear tire and the body? I would think 2".

2 inches ?? I'm looking at about 7/8"! Then again, I'll be running a LOT less power than you and can probably get away with less room, especially if/when I change to a lower profile tire. I did find a source for inexpensive 1/2" spacers I could use if needed.

It appears with the 315s I will have 49.5 inner tire surfacce to inner tire surface. I have the wheels you need it is too bad you are so far. I have 3 ea 79 TA 7x15s and 8x15 that I would probably let go of for about $150. They would be perfect on a LC with 50s. Also have a set of 14x7 REAL Minilites.

Thanks, but the more I look at 'em the more I like the S10 wheels. Plus, they're paid for!

I would say wory about the clearance issues one you have the bodywork on, the aluminum pannel around the ass end will decrease the amount of clearance you have once it goes on, add any rivets that you may have to add to that area, and your looking at 1/8-1/2 inch difference. Plus you can always add a spacer.

As far as minimum clearance, remember that with a live axle the wheel will twist in regard to the frame, as long as one side is at full droop and the other is fully compressed, and nothing rubs then you should be good, get the suspension and bdywork done first, then figure out the answer based on your needs at that time.

also if youre using an s10 rear and book size frame you will be good

I'm 6'5" 220 lb and would like all the room I can get, with that in mind What I was thinking was following the 442 but widning that 2" down the middle.

The car will be using a 392, T5, Mk VIII/03 Cobra/Explorer based IRS with 315 35 17 tires. The wheels are already bought, 17x9 &17x10.5, and spacers wouldn't be safe for this car (in general I don't like them).

I'd stick with the 442 dimensions. That's a 46" frame, giving you only 1.5" of clearance. I'd think an IRS needs a little more room than a live axle, because of the camber changes.
