Since my radiator is in the front of the car with no fill neck or cap, i need to put something near the engine that i can fill up. The below option seems pretty pricey. Is there a better option that combines the fill and expansion tank?? Also does it need to be at the tallest point or does the expansion tank need to be? It might be hard to reach a remote fill considering where the inlet and outlet locations are on the b16 engine (near the hot turbo and exhaust).

You can build the most awesome thing in the world but at some point, an 80yr old man in a crx is probably going kick your butt on the track... don't ask me how I know.

I would go with a Vw/audi plastic expansion tank. Used they are free or at most- cheap. Certainly locost.

Yeah i have the stock civic one but it is odd shaped and there isnt really a good place to put it. they sell a universal one on Amazon for like $10. Just trying to get away from two tanks or a hard to reach fill neck.

That is an expansion tank, do you perhaps mean a recovery tank?

Yes. So that when the cap detects a certain temperature it will push the coolant into the tank. That's how most cars work i assume. Is there a way around this? Does the cap just maintain pressure and tank can have air in it?

i have seen ones like this but was sure if they were to be filled all the way or part of the way. I would like to just use something like this and eliminate a remote neck and expansion tank.

No, an expansion tank is tee'd directly off of the coolant circuit and coolant is free to pass to/from the coolant loop at any time. It has exactly the same sort of cap as a radiator that will vent air/coolant to bleed off excess pressure when the system is running hot. when the cap vents, air/vapor/coolant goes through a little rubber hose into a recovery tank or catch can.

What you linked to is an expansion tank.

I suggest you only add an overflow at the radiator (unpressurized bottle with a hose from the radiator neck to the bottom of the bottle).

For filling, you'd fill the radiator as much as possible, put the cap on, fill the overflow to the minimum mark, then fill at the highest point above the heads water jacket. This can be a heater hose connection of the intake that goes up a few inches and has a plug. Doesn't have to be anything special but filling the remainder of the system through a 5/8 or 3/4 hose takes time.
