I run my fuel filter between the tank and the pump which then goes into the fuel rail. I have been having issues with fuel starvation and I think the fuel filter is the issue.

I was running the cheap see though ones from the local car shop as it is great for checking to see how dirty it is. However at the last event one split which ended my day early.

I decided to get a good one and purchased a K&N http://www.amazon.com/K-N-PF-2000-Fuel- ... uel+filter however this has thinner connectors and seems to be restricting fuel flow.

Does anyone have a good recommendation for a fuel filter with 3/8" (Edit: or 5/16th) connectors, that you attache with a hose clamp. Transparent is a plus but I will take anything at this point.

Maybe a bit over kill but i had one of these in a f150 for a while.

inner filter is cheap and you can get 3/8 barb to 3/4 pipe fitting anywhere

For the tank/pump/injection setup similar to what you're running, I've used Summit's Inline Billet Filter (10 micron).

I just run OE fuel filters. Cheap and durable. The one from a 2000 E350 with a 5.4L has 5/16" lines, and flows well enough for 6.8L engines. So long as you can stuff your hose over the barbs, it should work well for low-pressure. Body size is reasonable as well.

If you are running higher pressures you can get adapters to fit the G3727 filter to AN (there are better filters than Fram but it's the # I remember). Then just flare the tubes with AN nuts and bolt in. You could use AN hose as well.

Cheers.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I do like the look of this one with the optional stainless steel cartridge. It is rather large so I will have to do some measuring but I am sure I can make it fit.

Unfortunately, the McMaster filter comes with a Buna-N o-ring. These won't last very long in today's gasoline. You'll know it's failed because the starvation symptom will be back (been there, done that). This can be remedied by using a Viton o-ring.

I'm using a filter from a dodge daytona/lebaron but i'm using it between the fuel pump and the fuel rail. It is a metal high pressure filter with 5/16" barbs on the same side.

If I understand this right you are looking for a pre filter, these are less restrictive ( as in wont cause cavitation ) when drawn through. The other cheap inlines do not have the flow capacity for a fuel injection system.

Something like this which is good for 300lts a minute http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BULLET-FUEL-F ... 3641.l6368

The pre filter is nothing more than a coarse screen to protect the pump from debris in the tank. It has a lot of surface area for minimizing the pressure drop. I’d use a in tank sock made for fuel cells and sae 30r10 ½” submersible hose to connect to a new bulkhead fitting to accept the ½” barb inside and outside, with a reducer to 3/8” at the pump inlet. No filter between the tank and pump.

Cell socks are fairly cheap. If there were not, you could machine a barb fitting to accept a standard replacement sock for any application. The fits are not super tight and the operation of the system tends to pull it together anyway. traditional strainers have been brass mesh rolled and soldered together and on to a fitting, but the surface area would not be as great as a typical sock so the pressure drop would be greater.
