Hey guys,

I have an ATL fuel cell with the return and feed coming directly out of the top flange. I'm trying to run an EFI return system to a busa engine but I've got a few worries...

I've heard that inline external high pressure fuel pumps are all of the "push" variety. I plan on mounting the pump low, and near the cell, but it will still obviously be "pulling" fuel from the bottom of the cell all the way up and out of the AN feed line, and then down to the pump itself.

Am I going to completely F up my fuel pump this way? I tried contact ATL but got nothing from them...

Has anyone else run a similar system with a fuel cell before (my guess is YES x1000)?

Thanks for any and all advice,
Ben

Yes all inline pumps are meant to push but like all pumps, they suck first, then push. It will be fine in your configuration. The only problem with sucking air first, before it primes with gasoling is that the air can get thinner and thinner as it's trying to get the gas. That is why it is important to make sure that your gastank cap has a working one-way vent valve. Without it, air can't get into the tank, causing vacuum lock, where nothing can get sucked out of the tank.

Some cars use a "lift pump" in the tank ahead of the high pressure pump. The lift pump is high volume/low pressure. I have bypassed dead lift pumps with no noticeable problems.

I use ATL cells and always get the 'Black Box' with them which goes inside the cell and has a Walbro pump. This is a superior setup in several ways.
No pulling for the pump and a safe, clean setup.
The box part has trap doors to keep fuel at the pickup during corners.
I can't imagine not doing that.

I have this on my 700+ HP road racer and it will run well until it sucks every last bit of fuel out. And that's with 75 psi to the injectors.
