This is an unusual video. It's long too, but worth it if you truly love the 7, and it's history.

The first ~18 minutes deals with a restored 7 Series 1 at a very cool country garage somewhere in the UK. The owner talks you through some history of the vehicle, and how he found it, and what they did to restore. They did a beautiful job. It's gorgeous, but not overdone. Except for the roll bar, it looks as it might back in the day. The roll bar is so he can take it out on tracks today.

Around minute 18 he goes out for a road test. If you don't watch anything else, do watch that. It is still very impressive on the road. You'll find the video here.

Cheers,

Straight-cut gears and double-clutching, very race car.

What a character! You really need a video with closed captioning to understand everything he says. I also love his "shed". Wish I had a shop like that.
That is one very nice "old" Lotus 7. He's done a remarkable job restoring it to its current condition.

Thanks for the video Lonnie.

Cheers,
Roy

Great video.
2 things I take away from it that have nothing to do with the car. (1) if you live across the pond you are immune to carbon monoxide, (2) the sun never shines across the pond.

Makes you wonder why anyone would want more power than that on a public road. Nobody would expect it to move like that, looking at the bits. I like the combined uca link with swaybar, saving weight. The origin of the clamshells. Just need to close the gap to the body. I don't know of anybody making the rears. It would require an extremely narrow wheel by today's standards.

If you turn on the YouTube closed captioning it says [Music] when the engine is revving...very appropriate, what a great sound.

Looks like there are lots of other interesting videos on his channel. Thanks Lonnie for steering me there!

I find your comment ironic given your screen name: MiataV8!

It's highly likely that the camera has a wide-angle lens, making speed appear more than it is. I didn't check to see if the speedometer was visible and readable.

One time I got to drive a stock Lotus Seven from the early 1960s, which had 49 hp. Acceleration was not mind-bending; its forte is twisty roads, not drag racing.

Hey, no fair using logic. Of course, this is about half the weight of a miata. Power to weight with this motor is probably about the same as a mild v8 miata.

EDIT: Just found a ref to back that up. Autosport, 1959: S1 Super Seven C with coventry climax 1098cc, 75bhp, kerb weight 924lb for 12.32 lbs / hp. That is about a 1/3 of the weight and hp of a miata with a 5.0l roller cam GT 225hp motor, T5, 8.8 irs at about 2900 lbs.

Not suggesting they are equal, just that they both move out ok.

As far as I know, all the cycle fendered Lotus 7s are set up like that! You're gonna get a bath if you turn the wheels in a puddle!

And the wider the tires, the worse it would be! LOL!
