I watched that the other night, it's a shame they couldn't take it out for a spin. I'm also kind of upset that is has me now wanting to build something like it, I really should focus on the Europa, but a Lola Mk6 would be so much better. Supposedly there was a guy looking into building a replica or making a kit, from what I recall reading on the GT40s forum.

Beautiful, tiny car with a flat left front tire!

Yes, that was fun. I doesn't seem like that long ago to me. We would have never gotten away with reading a "Road & Track" or "Car and Driver" during a class session at my high school, but I do remember reading about that car, and later the GT40, during lunch breaks. It still looks good, at least to me. I think that speaks volumes about the talents of the men who designed and built them.

Cheers,

One of the more interesting Leno Garage episode. When this (the Lola) first was in all the magazines I though it looked unfinished. Surprised at how small it is. That wasn't apparent in1963. This one looks well done.

John, those tires are 65 years old. Doing good to hold any air at all! But good eye. Didn't notice how low it was until you pointed it out.

Thanks for sharing HP!

I briefly met Leno once (as in, I held his shop door open for him) so I know he's around 5'-10". Point being, that car is incredibly low (though a flat tire makes it more so). Because they only showed one still photo of the engine bay which makes me wonder if this car still doesn't have a drivetrain.

You must not have watched the video, they cranked the car up and let it run. It sounded sweet!

We know the GT40 was 40 inches tall (including the helmet bubble?). I wonder how tall that Lola is?

Besides the bodywork, I don't see a Lola replica (assuming you could get some plans to it) as being a whole lot harder than a Locost. I bet the windshield is out of some kind on production car. You'd have to use a modern transaxle, I'd guess, but that should be do-able. It's fun to contemplate any way. Talk is cheap. Dreams are even cheaper than talk - no muscle movement.

Cheers,

You're almost right, I watched the whole thing, right up to just before they lifted the engine cover...
