I was well aware of the Kurtis Kraft cars just loving old front engined Indy cars and admiring the 500S road going sports cars too but it struck me only yesterday that the 500S was released as early as 1953 whereas the Lotus 7 came out in the late 50's.

Good idea for some one to copy one of these, I have been going on about a bigger Locost and here is it in the flesh ...

More info and pics here as well .. http://www.conceptcarz.com/vehicle/z124 ... -500S.aspx

i think we could manage that, is it a ladder frame or space frame.

just need someone to make the nose and tail.

I've been toying if to produce a Locost or not and considering I am in favour of both a larger Locost and I have developed front and rear beam systems then this may fit the bill perfectly. I'm not exactly anti-V8 either!

Notice the front beam ...

In China we say "I rikey".

Good article here, lots in common with Locost, every one built was different!

Amazed they haven't been 'Kitted' yet, cross between the 2 most popular kits in the world ie; Locost and Cobra.

They were ladder back then but I'm sure one could do better these days, one might simply mod a Locost chassis to suit.

Yo, Cheapracer-
Me rikey too! The ol' Kurtis roadster, yep, good looking car! It would be a nice one to "kit" as I bet a lot of folks remember the name. Better hurry though, before all of us that do remember it are to old to build it!

It does go well with your "beam axle" concepts... Hmmm... Very interesting...

Always thought they were Allards with a funny grill. Solid front axle, drum brakes, lots of power.. Sounds like a handful. Saw one about 15 years ago at summit point and realized it was a Kurtis not an Allard with a funny grill

so is aftermarket vw torsion bars the way to go, front and rear?

straight tube axle?

or do you think you could get a complete vw torsion bar front end behind that grill complete with disc brakes and sway bars, steering box from a vw mounted on the torsion tube.

you could even reverse the front torsion bar setup and mount it behind the rear axle, with suitable adjustments to the geometery, there rear disc brakes as well.

that ladder chassis is so deep i doubt you would need much more to make it rigid, just enough to mount the body and roll bar.

or do i have the rear end here?

now if i can just find an old caddy engine and transmission.
