When I completed the restoration on my MG, I took it to work to show the guys. While I was inside working, the president of the company removed the tonneau and showed the car off to others. He never saw my car before. I don't even know if he knew who's car it was but somehow didn't think twice about treating it like it was his. That's when I caught him.

You never know who will be molesting your creations while unattended! Some people's kids!

If they cut the buckle off all they need to do is attach Velcro to the straps so the straps don't hang down. Not the same as the buckles as far as safety goes, However I have seen it done.

I've even seen it done by pros! When I worked at Universal Studios Tours, many of the stunt men in the 'Thrill Shows' used the velcro-on-the-helmet-strap trick to speed up costume changes between scenes!
