The "new" Mazda Miata looks pretty sweet:

The new Miata RF will be available for pre-order later this summer.

Wonder if this is going to be available on the 124 as well. I'd guess yes.

While I don't like the new body style, or at least the rear fenders and tail end, if I were going to buy a Miata that would be the one I'd buy.

I just wish they'd have made removable Targa tops rather than the expensive, heavy electric hard top type option.

i don't like the tail end either. However my dislike is that they went away from the fully retractable hardtop and went with the RF style. (Retractable Fastback in their terms). It reminds me too much of what cars looked like when the death of the convertible happened here in the US in the 80's. The rest of the car and the roadster look great IMO.

I've owned a couple of Miatae, and love true convertibles too...But I really do like that!

I think it's a great compliment/alternative to the traditional soft top, and it looks much less awkward than a PRHT (especially when body colored) that mimics the shape of a convertible top.

I do love retractable hard tops on car. I would not get one to race due to the weight. But as a daily driver in Florida I don't think you can beat them.

The laziness of the consumer killed targa, oversized removable moon roofs and t tops.

Probably, But it was the safety concerns of the convertible that created the Targa. (IMO)

I don't mind the retractable hard top concept. I really like it on the current model. I just don't like the remaining B" pillar and rear window accroutrements that still are there after the top is retracted.

it drives me bonkers when its 75° out, sunny and beautiful and some [Rectum] with a c70 convertible has the top up, windows up and probably AC on.

I just want to yell "you don't deserve that!!"

I'm fine with targas. I've owned one open top custom roadster (77 celica GT), one t top car (aw11 MR2), 3 soft top convertibles (NA Miatas), one removable moon roof car (Porsche 924.. what a weird, but cool, top) and one targa top car (C4 vette).

My only qualm with the targa/t top cars are the wind buffeting.. its almost impossible to combat that. the vette actually had a little detent stay for the rear hatch, so that you could pop the rear glass and eliminate the buffeting through the cockpit.

then again, I'm not your average American. I like manual transmissions, and dislike traction and stability control, and like manual convertible roofs, and rear wheel drive.

Targs tops came about for roll over safety. Me, I prefer stow away tops.

I can sort of see that... but it's the ones who drive around with the top down and the rear quarter windows sticking up that annoy me. Second prize to the ones with the side windows up. WTF?
