Somewhat off topic but interesting.

I was in the market for new tires. I went to TireRack.com to find the best rated ones for my needs. I ended up purchasing that same tire at Walmart.com and had them delivered to my home. I found the price to be a bit lower than the delivered price from tirerack or any other online tire supplier. But here's the deal.

I had Walmart install them on the car. Their website says the cost is $12 ea for mounting and lifetime balance. If I bought them elsewhere the cost is 10 more per tire. They tried to charge me for the required new tire State disposal fee. I said that I bought them and could have installed them by myself. There should not be a disposal fee. They agreed. But they charged me for " lifetime balance only. i asked a couple of times. They assured me it was correct. The actual installation price was 36. It covered tire change and lifetime balance. Amazing!

I kept the old tires and sold them on Craigslist for $50. Sure beats having to pay to dispose of them.

I had a similar experience this week. Shopping for 2 new front tires for Maybelline I was on tire rack, Walmart, and a few other sites, as well as comparing to local quotes. Walmart was $10 per tire less than Tire Rack so I had them shipped to my local store for free.

When I went to get them installed, the girl at the desk offered me the full cafeteria menu of install options. I went with mount, balance, and road hazard. I convinced them to swap the valve stems for free and discount the install since the tires can't be rotated. 8)

Rule 1 from Purchasing, You don't get what you don't ask for.
Rule 2, Don't take a no from someone who isn't authorized to say yes.

I'm loving my new (to me) daily driver.
