In the beginning.............. (no, that's not how old I am).
My lust for a Lotus 7 started when I was at a sports car race in the 1960s and saw a Lotus 7 beat all the 283 c.i. Corvettes. He was also nipping at the heels of the larger engined Corvettes. That was impressive.

I really started considering buying one when they were first imported to the US. I was just married and couldn't afford that "expensive" kit (aprox $2400 to $2900 depending on the engine etc). I did go to the local dealer and drooled on their demo car though. And I got a brochure, which I still have.

Later, I read Ron Champion's book and even though I could build my own from scratch, I'd already "been there, done that". I really didn't want to go through all the trips to the junk yards etc to build a another car from scratch.

I considered a Stalker, but somehow it just wasn't what I really wanted. I had been hanging out on the Locost forums and saw a CMC roller for sale. I bought it in March of 2006 and a year later I finished building the car. It is now titled, tagged and on the road.

IT WAS WORTH THE WAIT, even if it did take 45+ years!

I'm zeroing in on a set 3.31:1 rear end gears. Then I should be able to go down the road and not sound like a chainsaw!

Very nice wat r u going to do about front wheel guards cycle or clamshell?

Clam shell would be nice but I actually have the wide cycle type fenders painted but not being used. I haven't mounted them yet since I like the look of open front wheels. Sort of goes along with, "If it doesn't make it go faster, you don't need it."

It also avoids a lot of trouble with the front fender mounts cracking.
