How about getting the parts back and doing a carbon fiber wrap yourself? I say carbon fiber because I doubt you'd match your color in a wrap. There are so many other textures out there, however. You're sure to find something that interests you.

Cheers,

I feel for you, Kurt. I have a million stories like that over the years, but I'm pretty gullible. Paint shops have been pretty good to me, but machine shops are bad, and 'race prep' shops are the worst.

Finally got the painted ductwork back (sitting loose in the pictures). I saw a post saying "He ruined it", but that's okay, it's one less person who wants a ride.

Why did you pinch the flow side to side just over the intake box instead of flaring it out to each side?

BTW I like the way the intake looks over the windshield

So I can use the rear view mirror!

The cross-sectional area of that pinched area matches the inlet area, and above the intercooler core it flairs back out, so the "theory" is that I can reshape it as long as I keep the area the same.

Would you consider the use of a "tray" under the intercooler to direct air to a negative pressure zone at the rear of the car? This could make the whole system more efficient but would also add complexity that you may not need. I was thinking along the same lines as ducting a rad for airflow on both sides to increase cooling. Same idea, right?

You mean "feet- we all have a set. And we just can't smell them at the other end", right?

Kurt, great presentation of Midlana on BAT! She looks fantastic.

I've always thought Midlana had the best lines of any 7 design out there. If I do another build, a Mach-E version will be at the top of the list.

Good luck on the auction. You should do well.

Thanks, Tom. Yes, an EV version is becoming more likely as time passes, as there are now a few aftermarket controllers for Tesla motors. That should remove the big stumbling block, though at this time, EV parts are still too expensive. I'm speaking about other builders, not myself, as several of the reasons for selling would still exist if I magically switched to an EV Midlana.

Regarding how well it does, I have absolutely no idea. It's only worth what others think it is, and it'll take at least two such people to get in a bidding war to see crazy numbers. Whoever the buyer is, is going to have to be pretty special, unafraid to get his/her hands dirty, but also willing to deal with multiple car systems like fuel, electrical, mechanical, braking, engine diagnostics, ECU tuning, and on and on. It was a great challenge and learning experience for me, but I know that people willing to go there are few and far between. If only TV and the Interwebz vanished, we'd be so much more productive in our spare time, hah.

So here's a question: If and when you decide to sell your Locost, would you let prospective buyers drive it first?

What if your car has 400+ horsepower, would you still let them?

I'm in that situation now and am torn, but have been saying "no", due to the liability and potential damage being more than I want to deal with. I realize that this is a very subjective question, and it's up to us to make up our own minds, but I'm curious what others' mindsets are.

I happen to agree with your point of view. I would take them for a ride with them in the passenger seat.

Yeah, ride along sounds good. Worst case scenario, they get upset because they messed their pants from fear/excitement on the test ride.

Ride along or full cash amount in my pocket and a bill of sale with a 30min window to bring the car back unharmed for a refund, and I'd have to feel good about the person before offering up the second option.
