Congratulations, Nick.
Looks great, your co-pilot looks happy and numerous coffee places appear to have a continued economic future.

Congratulations, Nick, that is a huge accomplishment. :yay: And, you have a very smart looking sports car.

Looking at the roads makes me a little homesick. We must have done those West Marin roads 100 times in our '72 MGB. Those were the days when hardly anyone knew about them too.

Cheers,

thank goodness for that!

now we can get on with our own stuff instead of propping you up in your build.

seriously though, have you noticed that a large proportion of locost builders/drivers look the same, now i see that their better halves all look the same, just tell her to be careful about the hat being blown off at speed,

glad to see you on the road, excellent!

Thanks, everyone. It's been quite an adventure. I'm still not sure how it happened, but I'm not going to question the results. I'm just going to enjoy them. I've said it before but it can't be said enough, this wouldn't have been possible without your support and "prodding". John, I'd say you can relax now, but there are still several more builds in progress that need your attention. And JD, you're as responsible for this as anyone, but we haven't gotten a Slotus update in awhile, so what's up with that?

Nick, thank you for that... But I have to defer. As much as I'd like to take some kind of credit for helping with that gorgeous automobile that you've built... Well, you built it. Be proud. It's a beauty, it works well, and that sounds like a job well done, iffen anybody wuz to ask me.

And I have been slacking on the Slotus build log here lately, gotta get back into that. There's a couple of things to show off. (And a few more I'm tryin' to hide!)
Regards-
JDK

Updates.

I finally replaced the steering wheel. The one I got from Gordon looked perfect, but was just too big. The new one is black. It looks okay, but not as classy as wood. The important thing is, it's only 13" so I can actually fit my knees under it, which means I can now move my foot from the gas pedal to the brake in under two seconds.

I had to replace the alternator. I was okay with the original MGB alternator working only part-time, so long as the battery stayed charged. But then it started pegging the voltmeter at 18 volts. The new $70 O'Reilley replacement works perfectly.

I also added an oil cooler, because a friend gave me one. I'm not sure it's doing much besides adding some road-hugging weight to the front end, but I really appreciated the gift.

Nothing else to report. 5000 miles on the car and nothing else has broken. Tires are still the 10-year-old Bridgestones from the donor, now actually starting to show some wear.

I'm commuting in the Locost fairly regularly when it doesn't look like rain. I've done a lot of back-road drives with the local British club, and the car has taken many severe beatings on bad roads without complaint. Still tight as a drum. I also try to go to the local Cars & Coffee every month. Yesterday I went to a meeting of the local Lotus club and no one either cared or knew it was a replica.

The Locost is still a blast and I look forward to every drive in the thing.

Wood may look better, but it's no where near as comfortable and functional. You'll really appreciate the new wheel in very cold weather and when you are on any type of course.

A larger diameter grip area is even better.

Congrats Nick!! 5000 miles, you've been driving the heck out of it, thought of a name yet?

They range from 13-14" steering wheels, but GripRoyal has some really nice looking wooden steering wheels. As well as leather, swede, and painted wheels.

Yo Nick!
STILL a great looking Se7en, Sir. And performing flawlessly (well, except for that alternator...) is just proof positive of how well built it really is. Congratulations!

That new steering wheel looks very much like the original one on my '71 MGB. Not a bad match to the rest of the car, not bad at all!
