On my way to Oshkosh, I had the opportunity and privileged of meeting Jim and driving the Kubota Lalo. It had plenty of power and torque; so much so that I had to be careful not to get a speeding ticket from Milwaukee's finest. The short rev range took some getting used to, but I could see me driving something similar on any road.

A few more.
The air tank is a diy muffler that worked great.
Very snug fit with salvaged aircraft leather seating. Great car!

Very kind of you.I am going to put it away for the winter on Sunday.
The straight exhaust pipe sounded really cool(Like hot rod accelerating all out)
The problem was the car was just accelerating like every other car from the stop light.
I saw the air tank at Harbor Freight on sale for $15 and thought I'd give it a try.
like red green says" it's only temporary unless it works"

I was curious about that air tank. What does it sound like now? Does it fill up with water?

I have several engine design texts that cover Diesels. The recommended muffler configuration for stationary engines was an "expansion chamber", basically a large drum (or in some cases, a pit in the ground!) to provide volume to damp the exhaust pulses.

They're very efficient, but they take a lot of space, which is why you don't see them on vehicles. They're pretty much limited to things like driving big generators to feed the power grid.

Most designs fed the incoming exhaust straight into the side like Jim did, with a venturi or bell on the outlet tube.


Early RX7s used a "thermal reactor" that had enough volume to do some muffling; they added an extra muffler when they dropped the reactor in later years.

very kewl! I love the curved windshield, that's a modified new replacement windshield from some 1950s car, right? and, aren't those the GE LED headlamp assemblies? no doors, right? you step over the side to get in?
