Is it even possible to fix this site??

Got an idea on what would make this site better? Have a problem to report? This is the place to do it too.

Is it even possible to fix this site??

Post by ccrunner »

I'm not here to complain.. I'm here seeking a solution.. What can we do to get this site to where when a non member clicks in, that they can see the pictures in our build logs without having to log in or become a member?

In short, how can we make this site user friendly for lurkers who come here seeking PICTURES of our work? That is how the site used to be (before the great crash).. Arguably, that is how the site is supposed to work (you know, pictures or it didn't happen).

Again, I want to seek out solutions.. How can this be corrected? Money? Time? A new host/ company? Is this site for sale? Does it need a cash infusion to be repaired?? Can we take on adverts here? Maybe a gofundme page??? I am normally a very positive person, but for all of the work we put into posting our build progress, it's very, very frustrating that 97% of anyone who would come here sniffing around for details and pictures can't get the info they seek.. If I wasn't so invested in posting ALL of my build logs here, I would never visit, just alone based on the pictures not coming up as they should. When I go lurking on a sight for a build I find interesting, I'm 99% there for the pictures and/or video.

What can I do? What can we do to fix this server? What will it take to make this site function as a build forum should? ? ? I love this site.. I care.. I feel included here.. I just hate that we're so limited by the shortcomings of this half-functioning tech :BH:

I think it has something to do with images being uploaded as attachments, and attachments can only be seen by registered users.

I hotlink all of my images off my own web-hosting, so all of mine should always be visible.

I'm sure you've seen many a thread (here and elsewhere) where photobucket went down and took all the images with it. Ruined MANY a good thread.

Is there a setting somewhere that allows attached images to be visible to the public? That's probably what we need.

I posted this in the Berk thread:

I host all my photos on postimg
Rather than attaching them to the post, I use the img tags & put them in the post in-line, using the direct post link from postimg as the photourl in the example below.
With the spaces removed from the img tags: [ img ]photourl[ /img ]
There is also a img button in the reply form to prepopulate the img tags

This also prevents photo loss in the event of a forum server issue, which I seem to recall has happened & crippled a lot of build logs. Since mine are externally housed, I don't have the risk there.
