It's not so much deleting posts as correcting or adding info. I many times cringe an hour or a day later when I read one of my posts and I want to correct grammar or make clearer
Admittedly I'm a bit of a 'serial editor' myself, but really try to use it only in ways that (IMHO) will improve the wording (>95% of my edits), content, or quality my posts...And occasionally to even try to reduce my own escalations in 'spirited' debates. I've always appreciated the unlimited editing style here, and feel it shows a level of trust among the site members towards each other not common on lower signal to noise ratio sites.
However, if there have been problems recently with this being done in a manner that is detrimental enough to the integrity of posted information on this site, I can understand the unfortunate decision to change this policy. From my limited ability to see it, any such negative editing would certainly be the exception rather than the rule with the caliber of membership this site has.
Is it possible to deal with any such abuses in some way on an individual level* rather than making universal site changes? Would 24 hours be enough to have prevented the majority of lost post content that has occurred to prompt this change, while still being minimally intrusive to the much more frequent beneficial post editing as well?
