It does look as if the outboard tie-rod is higher but that is an illusion if you look at the pivot centerline of the spindle ball joint. The balljoint piviot is tilted slightly upwards so the LCA has a slight downward appearance when referencing the tie-rod. The tie-rod and LCA are not parallel but the centerline of each inboard and outboard pivot point is parallel. If you look back at around page 6, I did some extensice bumpsteer measurements. Once I get in on the road, I've still got a little room to move the rack up or down if needed.

Well, after a period of no activity, I decided to make the molds for my fiberglass fenders. I guess I could buy some but I prefer to make these to fit and look the way I want. So I started out with 2 steel trailer fenders. Of course they were not wide enough and did not have a sufficient lip so I had to widen it and add extra so it had the correct look. Then had to bond some plywood to the body side to square it off and add plywood to the outside to shape a little raised lip. Once completed, I cut out the plywood, shaped the ends and fit it to the car.

Looking dry good I've been following your build for quite some time. My parents live in Huntersville, NC. I stay on Fort Bragg, army of course. I'd love to see this beauty in person next time I'm in town if that would be ok. I just bought a Miata donor myself. I may be going to Germany so I'm not sure when the build will start.

Keep up the amazing work. I look forward to your updates. Your attention to detail is just amazing.

I'm just down the road in Morrisville (Raleigh). Let me know if there's a lunch!

Wonder how many Carolina people are on here? If you have never been to the new out door karting center off 150 in Mooresville go check it out. Fastest rental karts I've ever driven and a lot of fun.

Will do that kart thing when I get down there. I think that Mooresville is 3 hours from here?

Time to construct the front fender shape. Same method as the rears. Once completed, a little bondo and paint and they will be ready to make the molds.

Those look great - nice work. Did you have a lot of warping when you welded the pieces together?

No warping as I only used tack welds and started in the center and worked back and forth across the splice to the ends.

Now its time to make the molds. I never thought I would be spending so much time on these but at least, I am learning how to fiberglass.

I've not posted in a long time so it's time to catch up. I laid up the front and rear fenders using my molds. They turned out real nice. Learned a good lesson....buy a real gel coat gun versus trying to use a cheap HVLP sprayer.

Damn good looking fenders!!! How much lighter are the fiberglass ones over the metal ones?

Yes.............do tell on the weight. I haven't cut mine down yet but I'm hoping for about 2lbs for the rears.

Right now the rear fenders are around 5 lbs. but they do have a full back side of which will be trimmed around the frame once I make the final adjustment to the tires. To get a set down to 2 lbs. is quite an accomplishment. I've made these to fit 205/50-15 tires on 7" rims.
