Hi im Trip from Nashville TN. (sorry no spell check)
A lil back story, I bought a locost 7 a lil over a year ago from a older gent outside of nash (not origanl owner).
The car was allready built, regersterd & running like a champ.
The car was origanly built in FL but the guy was to old to drive it so his wife had to sale it for him, so thre is alot of mystery parts in it.
I got the car with the intent of doing a Swap on it because im not very pleased with what was in it.
I drove to car for about year to enjoy it for a lil while before tearing her apart.

It has 1.9l Saturn engine :? w/ a 70's toyota corona Automatic trans?
It was converted to a carbartor & pretty ghetto riged all around.
has a 70's Toyota corona rear end, brakes & front spindles (i think)
Eclipse stearing column.
Have no idea what the windsheild is from but its cracked.
She's a kinda slow but runs & handles good.

The plan was to do a miata swap w/ a supercharger.
Get it good & running & maybe later in the future swaped the spindles & rear end.

We started the project around Aug 14ish & have some of it done, so i just got to play catch up on updating this thread.
More will come shortly.

If you ever find out what the windshield's donor is you will be recognised as finding the golden egg: a curved screen that fits a 7 in the Donk style!

It fits pretty good what ever its from.
It came with some documents, pics & receipts, & a scrap piece of paper with some of the parts on it but, his hand writing is so bad that i cant make most of it out. I think the 3rd from the bottom says Windshield? but cant make out from what? any ideas?
Image
I havnt decided on what route to go on it.
Try to replace the glass.
Buy/make a Traditional one.
Or just go with small wind deflector.

I picked up a doner 91 miata for $1300 witch was a bit more than what i wanted but it had a hard-dog rollbar & a few other goodies to sale.
Allso had a 6speed Tranny from a 99.
(Most of this im just cut & paisting from my other thread on Tennspeed.net. )

But before we can get to the Locost We got to Strip the Miata. I picked it up last dec in Kingsport tn, The body is in very bad shape but it runs good & came with a 6speed & a Hard Dog Rollbar. Allso my g/f has a Miata so there are peaces here & there she can use.

Allso picked a supercharger for $700
Image

we started stripping her

Image
This is what a miata on the floor looks like

Image

Image
Hopeing to strip ;-) some more later ......

Got most of the car stripped down. the only thing left is the front & rear suspension, fuel tank & rear bumper.
Image

Found about $3.14 in the car sweeeet its gunna pay for itself
Image

anyone need a miata? lol
Image

Had a friend come over With some scales to weigh the locost before we rip it apart.
came to 1386 bitches! lol It was like F 50.9 to R 49.1 so it is very well balanced
Image
Image
It was weighed with about 3 or 4 gallons of gas & without me in it.

ok Heres some better pics of the engine bay & how it currently sits.

my moonshine

Ugly interior & lame sauce auto.
Image
This is how much room i have at my feet. So i plan on narrowing the Transmission tunnel to make room for a clutch pedal. The miata tranny is alot lot skinnier then this Auto Toyota one.
Image

look its a miata Transformer
Image

I plan on ripping the engine out this weekend.

Got alot more done today.
Motor & tranny is out.
Image
Image

The Wiring under the dash was a nightmare.
Image
Image
Image

Look how tiny my driveshaft is aawww its so cute.
Image

I weighted the tranny & it was 120 lbs without the torque converter & oil. Im glad to be getting rid of it.
Image

On other news we removed all the loom & tape off the miata wiring harness & started trimming it down. Image

This is some of the [PooPoo] we cut out allready.
Image
Rewiring this thing is going to be a pain in the ASS!

Allso got around to unmaitng the tranny & engine.
Image they need a bath.

no real updates. just got a few things in the mail, braided wire loom & a new motor mount.
Image

& we have been going threw the Wiring Diagram marking off what we dont need.
Image

Right now im waiting on a friend to let me borrow his plasma cutter so we can get to cutting.

Got alot done today.
We pulled it out & pressure washed her, she was a dirty girl.
Image

While she drip dryed outside we put in a new breaker & i stole the 220 outlet & wires from the shed saved like $40 & installed it in the garage. Its kinda ghetto right now but it works.
Image

We got to plasma cutting & cut out the old motor mounts.
Image
& then we Slammed that bitch! you though your car was low. (yes im probley alot younger than alot of ppl on this site lol)
Image

We dropped the engine & tranny in to figure out where it needs to sit & ran into alot of issue's. Im not gunna be able to narrow the tunnel as much as i thought only about 2 inches. The oil pan is gunna sit way to low so i might have to modify the hood to make clearance, & we are gunna have to pretty much cut out the whole tunnel & remake it to get it to all to work.

ImageImage

I started cutting on the firewall some before i f'ed up a electrode tip on the cutter.
Image
Image

Well got some more work done today. We ended up cutting out the entire middle section of the car. Kinda sucks that we got to do so much work just to swap engines, but we figured it would be easier to just rebuild the whole middle section then to fight with what we have. Image

We went threw alot of grinding & cutting wheels smoothing everything back out but we are not completely done yet. We dropped the engine back in to take some measurements.

Image
Image

I allso had to spend some money today & ordered some kirkey racing seats from summit & some willwood brake & clutch pedal assy.
Image
Image

I really didnt have a whole lot of options on seats since it had to be less than 15 & half in wide. hoping to start welding next week.

I'll try a stab at the list:

Engine - '93 Saturn 2
Trans - '81 Toyota Cressida
rear - '76 Toyots Corona Wagon
Brakes - '76 Toyota Corona Wagon
Master Brake Cylinder - Girling 3/4" TR3
Power Brake - Girling A H C S (Austin Healey something? )
Windshield - BMW 2000 (something)
Wheels - '82 Toyota Cressida
Wiper - Austin Healey Sprite converted from 3 to 2 blades

With all the work you are doing, it looks like you could have started from scratch a whole lot easier. Looking forward to more........

edit: It might just be that BMW windshield (maybe cut down the height?).......

Is it laminated safety glass? Sometimes you can tell a make by the marking (if it is still there)

Mid-60s mgb windscreen, imho.

Good time to change the rear main seal and gasket and check the clutch/fly/pp/pilot/release brng.

A diagonal across the front would be a good idea to prevent lozenging the frame if you bump something like a curb.

I also do not see a support bearing for the steering intermediate shaft. Even a bolt together bushing would be better than nothing.

I'd also check the bump steer while there is good access to move the tack if necessary since you have lowered it and save a full suspension system swap for later after it's back on the road a while.

What is your oil pan ground clearance with the engine fitting under the hood? You may need to raise the suspension back up.

Sort of fun to see a Locost deconstruction instead of construction. Like looking at a build log from the end and then going forward.
This will be a really nice car at the end...but it sure is going to look like its first picture!

An MGB windscreen is way too big for a Locost. A Midget/Sprite windscreen might fit a 442.

I wonder if a windshield repair shop would have any idea of what it might be.
It indeed looks like a real nice option.
What was your thoughts on the wind buffeting before you took it off the road to do all the great mods you are doing.
